I recently received a Bar Brat Ice Ball Maker and Sphere Ice Mold to change the aesthetics of the drinks served up in our household. My husband was very excited. He said spheres have a larger surface area, so it should cool drinks quicker. I don't know if that is factual or not.
What I do know is that the spheres are perfect when taken out of the mold. The mold is flexible, which makes removing the spheres very easy. The only bad thing about this mold is that there are only four spaces, which means only four spheres and the spheres are relatively the same size as a standard cube from an ice tray. They are not very big. So, if you are having a party and want to have ice spheres to serve, better start stockpiling now. Because it might take a while to acquire enough ice spheres.
The first time we tried it, my husband put in too much water, so the spheres had weird little nubs on top of them. So, the best tip I can give you to avoid those nubs is do not fill the mold the entire way. After all, water does expand when it freezes. Recommended.
