Review: Total Colon and Detox

Going through a cleanse and a detox can be both difficult and liberating. Difficult because you are always on call for the bathroom and liberating because you feel the toxins leaving
your body. You feel cleaner and freer.
I tried the Total Colon and Detox from Elite Gold Solutions when I received the opportunity to do so. I had already done a cleanse previously from a different company, and I was so happy with the results, I was more than eager to try another one.
I initially began with two caplets once a day. And I got results from that, but it wasn't quick enough. I read the instructions further and found that for maximum results, you should take two caplets with eight ounces of water two to three times per day. So, I upped my game play. And the results were amazing.
It is only supposed to be a seven day cleanse, but since I started small, I stretched it out to two weeks. But, I still got the desired results. I felt energized and I lost a couple inches overall. You can't beat a good cleanse and detox.
If you are looking for a good cleanse that gives you results, look no further. I urge you to give it a try.

Review: TechTattz

People are always looking for ways to personalize their
electronics. TechTattz has figured out an easy way to do that - temporary vinyl tattoos. And they are super cute!
I ran across this Etsy shop when I was looking for a different look for my smartphone. I definitely found it. The Cactus Free Hugs vinyl for my phone is cute and hilarious! But, TechTattz started by just making charger covers and just last summer.
"Our inspiration for the product itself came from always mixing up our phone chargers at work, home, etc. We thought it'd be a great idea to come up with a way to identify our chargers without having to write our initials with a Sharpie marker. The designs are inspired by striking colorful patterns."
No doubt, they are striking. Colorful with stunning designs. Their favorite charger skin also happens to be my favorite - the Sugar Skull. "The colors make your charger stand out and the design fits it so cute."
Look! Wall decals too!
But, the majority of their customers are going for the cuter (if that's even possible) charger skins - the Kitten and the Puppy. TechTattz said dog and cat lovers love them on their chargers and it's the perfect way to make them stand out.
TechTattz is not currently accepting custom orders, but it is a definite possibility in the future. The skins are very reasonably priced, so go to the Etsy shop and order one today. Stop losing your charger among everyone else's!

Review: Foxbrim Dead Sea Mud Mask

I adore good facial masks. They give my face a glorious smoothness that I just cannot get from any other product. Plus, they have a pampering luxurious feel to them as I wear them. There is nothing quite like putting on a silky robe and walking around the house with a mask on your face.
I received an opportunity from Foxbrim to review their Dead Sea Mud Mask and jumped on it. I had gone too long without a mask in my bathroom cabinet.
When it arrived in the mail, it had a pleasant heft to it. The rather unassuming label does not begin to speak to the treasure inside. However, it does speak to other very important aspects of this product. For one, it has nothing to do with China. With all of the faulty products being shipped in from there, it is important to me to use items that come from elsewhere. Anyway, this product is imported from Israel and bottled in the US of A! It is not tested on animals and only has two ingredients - mud from the Dead Sea and grapefruit seed extract to preserve freshness.
Now, the Dead Sea is renowned for having silt and mud that purifies your skin. And now it's been bottled and is able to shipped right to your house! And it is so worth it!
I felt a delightful tingle as I applied it to my face. And there was not an overwhelming aroma drifting up my nose as I wore it. As I left it on my skin for 10 minutes, I could feel it hardening and I was excited to see what the outcome was going to be. Once it was dry, I went to the bathroom and washed it off with lukewarm water and patted my face dry. It almost felt like air was hitting my face for the first time. Never had my skin felt so clean before.
I then put it to the ultimate test. I had Tony feel my face and he was amazed at how smooth and soft my skin felt. This is the best facial mask I have ever tried in my entire life! At only $25 it is really worth it. I urge you to get on Amazon and place an order today!
Full disclosure: I was sent a container from Foxbrim, free of charge, for an honest and unbiased review.

Review: Scavenger Shop by SL

I love jewelry! What woman doesn't? And I was excited to find Scavenger Shop by SL on Etsy. Owner S Lasgalen provides different styles of jewelry that are not easy to find elsewhere. You can bet you won't find these in Walmart.
Lasgalen studied costume and jewelry design in college and has been making creations since childhood. Opening Scavenger Shop one year ago, it is a product of a refocus back to creative endeavors after spending some time as a researcher.
"My inspiration, for the most part, comes from nature and astronomy," said Lasgalen. "I am absolutely mesmerized by the organic symmetry in leaves and branches, insects and corals, star system and nebulae. But as someone who studied archaeology, I'm also heavily influenced by history and literature. I
am particularly fond of the Bronze Age, Victorian Period and Art Nouveau Movement."
Both of those loves - of nature and history - were reflected in "The Priestess" necklace. Lasgalen, who declared it a personal favorite, loved the bulkier elements (antlers and quartz) mixed with the delicate wire work. But, fans of Scavenger Shop have a love for the faux pearl earrings and necklace.
Even though Lasgalen focuses on jewelry, custom orders are taken and can be extended to costumes.
"I look forward to working with someone to help bring their vision to life."
Please, go check out Scavenger Shop and place your order!

Review: Midori Spring Ceremonial (GOLD) Matcha Green Tea

Tony and I are big tea drinkers (as well as coffee), but our favorite has always been green tea. Not only does it taste wonderful, but it is exceedingly good for you! But, I am picky about what green teas I drink. I received an offer from Midori Spring to review their Ceremonial GOLD Matcha Green Tea and thought, "What the heck?"
It arrived in a cute little tin container. There was not a lot of it. When I opened the lid, I saw a green powder inside. It was not the standard green tea I was accustomed to - you know, in bags. The instructions on the container said to mix two teaspoons into hot water and mix well. Then, add more water to your taste. The instructions were more detailed, like how you should use bamboo spoons and whisks, but I figured my standard kitchen utensils would be just fine.
The two teaspoons took a good dent out of the powder, which was disappointing, because I wanted to have it around for a while and I hadn't even drank it yet. I poured the boiling water on top of the powder in my mug, whisked it briskly and then added more water to the rim of my mug. I let it set for a while.
That first sip was amazing! It was an intense and delightful green tea. I drank it as fast as the temperature would allow me to. Afterward, I got a pleasant amount of energy coursing through me. It was not like what you get from an energy drink - it was natural. And I had more focus on my day to day tasks. Of course, I was not surprised, as green tea does have that effect on people, but this was pure and wonderful.
That being said, there is a downside to this tea. It tends to clump and thicken at the bottom of your mug. If you are a hardcore green tea lover, you might be able to stomach what is at the bottom. If not, I recommend either dumping it or adding more water. It is also rather spendy - $24.97 for 1.06 oz. But, if you get the opportunity and you want to try a healthy luxury, I recommend it.
Full disclosure: I was sent a container of this green tea for an honest and unbiased review.

My Nightmare

Ever thought you were living your nightmare? It's a terrifying experience and one that is both a positive and a negative when it comes to living a life.
Let me give you some background. I am a Type 1 diabetic and have been so for going on 28 years. When I was a child, I watched the 80s movie Steel Magnolias. Most of you, I am sure, have already seen it. But, for those who haven't, it centers around a group of friends in the south and the life of a young Type 1 diabetic woman, played by Julia Roberts. She's a brittle diabetic and after giving birth to her first child, her kidneys fail. She gets a transplant and everything seems hunky dory until she picks her baby boy up
above her head and an intense pain shoots through her back. She quickly puts her son down and tries to crawl to the phone, but she falls into a coma - one from which she never awakens. Her family decides to pull her life support.
For a long time, I was terrified of having children. I did not want to end up like that. But, I've had two and even though there were complications with each pregnancy, I'm still alive and kicking.
However, on Thursday, I laid my son down for his afternoon nap in his crib. When I stood back up, a blinding pain suddenly ripped through my back. It took my breath away and I knew I had to get to the telephone to call 911. Every step was excruciating as I used the wall to help me get from my son's room to the phone in the kitchen. I was bent at an angle because I couldn't straighten myself and tears streamed down my face. Tony came home from lunch and found me leaning on the kitchen counter screaming and crying, trying to dial 911.
He did it for me. As the EMTs loaded me onto a chair, I was convinced that the scene in Steel Magnolias was happening to me. I was terrified at the thought of leaving my children, my husband, my family and friends behind. They took me into the ER and I waited for the doctor as the nurse pumped me full of pain meds. An x-ray was ordered. Being moved by the
The coma image permanently engrained in my memory.
technicians from my bed to the table was terrible. The nurse told me nothing was found, which meant there was not a bone problem. At this point, I was sure that it was my kidneys. My entire lower back was in agony, so I couldn't really pinpoint it anywhere. Then, a CT scan was ordered, to see if there was anything wrong with the soft tissue.

The wait for the CT scan seemed like an eternity. Thankfully, the nurse gave me more pain meds and I drifted off into la la land until the doctor came in and told me a disc in my lower spine had moved. I asked him if my kidneys were okay and he said there was no indication of any kidney trouble. I breathed a sigh of relief and cried a little bit. I was convinced I was going to have a terrible Steel Magnolias fate. This convincing had a lot to do with my fear of that and also my incredible imagination. I made a bad situation worse by letting panic overtake me.
While this was all terrible, at the same time, I am thankful for it. Because now I know how I react when I am faced with my greatest fear. And I know what to do the next time it happens.

Review: True Sol Extreme Testrone

Tony has wanted to try testosterone supplements for a long time. His brother swears by it. However, Tony has never been sure as to which of the numerous supplements to try. When I
received an opportunity to review the Extreme Testrone from True Sol, I asked him if he would be willing to give it a go. He immediately said yes.
The instructions on the bottle state that two pills should be taken per day. One in the morning and one before your work out. So, it gave him that extra inspiration he needed to get back to the gym.
He's used the Extreme Testrone for a couple weeks now and he has not run out of energy. Probably because the supplement increases your energy. Tony said he has also noticed an increase in strength. While he might not be lifting heavier weights, it takes him longer to tire on his reps.
Not only is he getting benefits in his quest to get fit, but I am benefitting as well. The supplements have certainly made him more passionate. Even though we have never had a problem in that area before, he is expressing an increased enthusiasm for bedroom activities.
So, please, if your man is looking for increased strength, energy and passion, get him a bottle of this! It's only $30 on Amazon. It will be money well spent.
Full disclosure: I received a bottle of this in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Clinical Trials - If You Are Eligible, Do It

From time to time, I check out clinical trials that might be of benefit to those with Type 1 diabetes. If I find one that intrigues me, I check out the criteria for participants. Unfortunately, I do not qualify for the vast majority of the ones that interest me. For two reasons:
   1) I'm in the wrong part of the country.
   2) I've been a Type 1 diabetic for too long.
The first reason is one I can accept easily enough. Because maybe the study can eventually move to my neck of the woods. The second reason stabs me like a knife. Because there is nothing that I can do to change that. I can't go back in time. And I resent being excluded from something that could very well physically improve or change my life. All because I've been a Type 1 diabetic for almost 28 years. And I know many fellow Type 1s are in the same boat as myself.
A lot of the trials require newly diagnosed diabetics. For example, a close-by study by Sanford Research in Sioux Falls, SD is trying to get to the heart of the problem - the faulty immune system. And I started frothing at the mouth when I saw that. But, the requirement was you had to have been diagnosed within in the last three months. I know a lot of Type 1 diabetics. And there is only one that fits that bill. That diabetic fits the requirement of the length of the disease, but not of the age, which is 18-45. So, none of us can participate. And it is discouraging.
The people in charge of the studies always say that people who have Type 1 for extended periods of time will eventually be able to participate. But, that can take years. The trial has to go through phases. Money has to be raised for each phase. The federal government has to give its stamp of approval. How many of the unfortunate diabetics will be left untouched by complications?
I participated in a study about seven years ago. My endo asked me when he found that I fit all of the criteria. Unfortunately, it was not for a cure. It was for a basal insulin called SIBA (also called Tresiba). And it works so much better than Lantus. I was in the study for a year and I was under better control because of the SIBA (and also because I had required weekly visits with my endo). Not only was I under better control, but all of my insulin was free! And I got paid for participating! It was a dream come true!
I asked my last endo (about six months ago) if I could get a prescription for SIBA and he said that was not possible. The federal government has frozen it until studies can determine it will not cause cardiovascular problems. The conspiracy alarms started ringing in my head when I heard that.
Anyway, I will be looking for additional clinical trials that I can participate in and hopefully will find some that give promise for better control or a cure and I will pass that information on to you.

Good Foot Care Products for Type 1s

Take care of your feet!
How many times have we Type 1's heard that? It is drummed into our heads since the day of our diagnosis. And for good reason. Ill cared-for feet can easily become amputated, especially when the blood circulation slows.
I take care of my feet. Not as well as my endo would like, but I take care of them. And I've proven it to them for the past 28 years. When the endo brings that thread to the bottom of your foot to test how well you can feel, I ace it. And my feet resemble a hobbit's. I have hair on my toes, which I find glorious. It's not pretty, but that means I have damn good circulation and it is something my endo is always happy to see.
However, my feet are not perfect. For many years (since I was a little kid), my heels have been dry and have a tendency to crack open. My heels and other parts of my feet are now calloused, which leads to further dryness and cracking. The last endo I went to said it was because I walk around with bare feet. I spend a lot of my time inside, so going bare foot is something that I am extremely comfortable with and thoroughly enjoy. But, these past three years, I have begun slathering my feet with creams and wearing socks more often *sob, tear*. All in an effort to keep the cracking at bay. If I stay on top of it, I can go months without a crack and then walking gingerly for a week.
So, after years of using a variety of products, I will share with you what works best for me. Hopefully, if you have foot care troubles, it will help you.
First, get a Ped Egg. This really works in reducing my callouses and it makes my feet a little smoother for a time. They are not that expensive and after having the same one for five years, I have not had to replace it yet.
Get an excellent cream. The best one I have found so far is Dr. Scholls For Her Intensive Heel Repair. This is a miracle worker! After the cracks appear, this helps them to heal quickly and it does its job at keeping the cracks away. But, the last time I ran out, I was unable to find more. I had to use a substitute, which was a poor one at best. Thankfully, my best friend Jana told me about what she uses - Gold Bond Ultimate Diabetic's Dry Skin Relief. It works almost as well as Dr. Scholls. And shout out to Jana for the recommendation!
So, first use the Ped Egg. Get as much of the callous off as you can. Next, apply the cream to your feet liberally. Put on a comfy pair of socks and keep them on. I suggest doing these steps in the morning, as I hate wearing socks at night. Do this at least four times a week.
Also, get those pedicures! The person giving you the pedicure is more likely to spot any sores on your feet than you are. And get some bling on your toenails! If you're going to spend money on a pedicure, you might as well walk out with pretty feet.
I hope this helps you in your quest for healthy Type 1 feet.

Review: Francois et Mimi 50 Ounce Stainless Steel Coffee Press

As you have probably guessed, my husband and I are both coffee lovers. We drink it right away in the morning. That's the first thing I take care of when I get up. I put water on to boil, add coffee grounds to my French press and then pour the water on top.
Francois et Mimi gave me the opportunity to review their 50 Ounce Stainless Steel Coffee Press. Now, 50 ounces - that's a lot of coffee! And it's glorious! Tony takes a large travel mug filled with coffee to work every morning. Afterward, there is still enough coffee left for me to have two cups. This French press has become our primary. Just because of the amount of coffee that it holds.
It is also easy to live with this French press. It can go in the dishwasher and come out looking sleek and shiny without water spots. The plunger is easily pushed down, keeping all of the coffee grounds at the bottom and releasing the coffee oils that are essential for an excellent taste. The French press also does a good job at keeping the coffee hot, even without being insulated. But, just because it's not insulated, does not mean it gets hot on the outside. You can still touch it with hot coffee inside and not worry about burning your fingers.
And, the slick, modern look of it - it goes great with the coffee mugs we got from Francois et Mimi. They are the same style.
All in all, this is the best French press we have had. And we don't need to get another one for a long time. After all, it is stainless steel. It's not going to break anytime soon.
Full disclosure: I was sent this French press in exchange an honest and unbiased review.

Review: Francois et Mimi Stainless Steel Insulated Coffee Mugs

There is one thing that is certain when you are a coffee drinker and you live in a house with small children. Mugs will be broken. So many of our mugs have taken that fatal tumble to the kitchen floor and shattered. When I got the
opportunity from Francois et Mimi to review a set of four Stainless Steel Insulated Coffee Mugs, I knew my days of picking up broken mug pieces off of the floor was over!
Upon arrival, they looked rather plain, but when I took them out of the box, I found they had a smart modern look. Tony carefully inspected them and gave them his seal of approval, especially after finding the handles were welded on.
These also hold more coffee than the standard ceramic coffee mug, which was a boon for both of us. But, we thought that would come with a downfall - the more coffee in a mug, the sooner it tends to cool. Because you can't drink it fast enough for it to stay hot. However, these are insulated so they hold the heat of the coffee very well. I can walk away from my half-full mug for 30 minutes (I've reluctantly done it before) and come back to find it is still pleasantly warm. Granted, it had cooled, but it certainly wasn't room temperature.
If you are looking for high quality coffee mugs that hold plenty of hot coffee and will not shatter upon contact with the floor, than look no further. At $29.95, these are well worth it.
Full disclosure: I was sent a set of four mugs in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Weight loss has long been an issue for me - since puberty. I am always eager to try new weight loss wonders and am usually sorely disappointed. Thankfully, not this time.

I was given the opportunity to review a bottle of Breakthrough Nutrition Garcinia Cambogia. And to give a bottle to one of my readers!
The directions on the bottle were not unreasonable - two capsules twice a day 20 minutes before a meal. Pick or choose which two meals. At first, it was difficult for me to remember, but I quickly got into the swing of things.
I noticed my cravings were reduced and it was easier for me to stick to my portion control diet. I experimented with what would happen if I stopped it for a day or two. During those two days, my stomach was growling not long after eating my small meals. And the cravings for food hit me hard. So, this really does work in curbing your impulse to attack your fridge with reckless abandon.
This would be a good product to jumpstart your weight loss with. Because not only does it work, but it is also all natural. There are zero binders, zero fillers and zero artificial ingredients.
Now, on to the giveaway! Breakthrough Nutrition is giving away one bottle to one of my lucky readers! Fill in the Rafflecopter form below. The winner will be chosen via and notified via email.

Review: Francois et Mimi Vintage Double Wall French Press

We do not have a coffee machine in this household. We used to. We also had an espresso machine, but then Tony went camping and was introduced to a French press. And our coffee drinking experience was changed forever.
I received an opportunity from Francois et Mimi to review their Vintage Double Wall French Press. Knowing that we needed a French press upgrade, I seized it. And I am SO GLAD I did!
When the package arrived in the mail, I was surprised by the weight of it. Not especially heavy, but heavier than the French press we got from Walmart. As I opened the top of the box, light shone - literally. It's made of stainless steel and reflected my overhead kitchen lights, but it was almost like an epiphany. A real French press!
When Tony got home for lunch, he was very excited to give it a try. He examined it and found that the handle is welded on. Nothing is going to break this baby! We quickly boiled some water, put fresh ground coffee in the container and placed the French press lid on top. After a few minutes (because you have to let coffee sit in the very hot water for a little bit), we were again pleasantly surprised to find the plunger easy to push down. And much less grounds were floating in the coffee than what we were previously used to.
We both were also happy with the look of the press. It's very aesthetically pleasing. And it can stay pretty without much effort, as it is dishwasher safe.
The only downside to this press is that it doesn't hold any more coffee than our old press. We still have to make more coffee to fill Tony's mug he takes to work and my cup at home. However, for small groups of people and weekends, it is perfect!

10 Things Type 1 Diabetics Know

There are things people without Type 1 diabetes just don't fully understand. They need to experience these things first hand.

1) The value of a juice box. This is HUUUGGGGEEE!!! Juice boxes have saved my ass countless times. I do not share my juice boxes with anyone. My daughter knows not to ask for them anymore, because she knows I will tell her no. I keep a supply in my house, some in my car and in my purse. When a low blood sugar hits, they are a life saver!

2) What we can eat. Trust me. Upon diagnosis, we have to visit nutritionists. And we keep seeing nutritionists on and off through the years. Telling a diabetic what he or she can or cannot eat is a cosmic no-no. We got this shit down.

3) Cynicism in a cure. Type 1 diabetes generates billions of dollars every year. Because of this, many Type 1 diabetics believe a cure will never be found. A cure might show up every once in a while in the headlines, but it quickly goes away and is never heard about again. Do not tell us we are being cynical. This is a belief that is firmly engrained in a lot of us.

4) It cannot be controlled 100 percent of the time. This is well nigh on impossible. So many things can throw Type 1 diabetes off track - exercise, diet, illness, stress, emotions, sleep, excitement, road rage, alcohol - the list goes on and on. Do not expect us to be in control all of the time. It will not happen. As one of my endocrinologists told me, you have to be a detective to figure out what the problem is when it goes wacky.

5) Apocalypse = death. The long and the short of it is, we need insulin to continue breathing. If the apocalypse hits, we are not going to live very long. The only chance we have is looting every pharmacy we come across.

6) The feeling of a perfect blood sugar. One can only describe it as euphoric. It does not happen often. To me, that perfection is 100. Not 101. Not 99. That one single number can make my day . . . at least until I test my blood sugar again.

7) The feeling of a too high blood sugar. HOLY SHIT! That is what you scream in your head (or out loud) when you get an ungodly high number. Not only do you feel terrible physically, but your brain is all cloudy from the excess sugar floating around in it. Insulin is your only hope and if you are not careful, you can take too much, which will plummet your blood sugar, which will cause you to reach for one of those precious juice boxes.

8) An indifference to needles. We have taken so many injections throughout our lives, needles no longer scare us. And we will laugh at them unless they look like they should be stuck in a horse. The only problem I have when I get vaccinated is I want to give myself the injection. I'm a pro and I hate giving over my professional power.

9) The feeling of coming out of a low blood sugar and finding you had a free for all pig out. This has happened to me a lot. I come out and I see empty juice boxes, cookie crumbs, empty chip bags, half filled microwave popcorn, melting ice cream. I hate myself afterward because I am way too full and I know my blood sugar is going to kill me in about an hour.

10) The bond with a fellow Type 1. When we come across one of our own (unless we're at a child's diabetic camp), we feel an attraction, a desire to strike up a conversation. It usually starts with asking about how much insulin is used each day and then war stories are shared. Sometimes the bond lasts for years. Other times, it is short lived, but it is still there.
